Shura has something of an outer and an inner personality: while goofy, brash, and lazy in her down time, she can be as focused and deadly as the snakes that lend to her fighting style and demon familiar when a task is presented for her.
Shura is generally laid back and unfazed by her hectic life. She's a fan of the bottle and loves nothing more than to kick back around a campfire and have a good time. Considered an extraordinarily talented exorcist, she seems to have a natural talent that lets her get away with keeping her own slack fairly loose, much to the ire of the hard-working young Yukio. That being said, she understands the gravity of her work and will put a good, sober foot forward when she knows she needs to. Specifically, she has a knack for finally stepping up to the plate when she is truly needed, especially when Rin or any of the other cram students are put in harm's way.
Shura can seem blunter than most in conversation. Only those who both earn and deserve her respect will receive any kind of honorific, and she's a fan of belittling nicknames when she can get away with it. She doesn't beat around the bush when she has something to discuss, and rarely shies away from a subject of discussion. Far from a refined young lady, she speaks in coarse slang and swears fairly often. With no one but the somewhat unorthodox Father Fujimoto to look up to while growing up, she hardly had an exemplum of propriety and grace to learn from. Despite her manner of speech, she is quite intelligent and knows not to overstretch her limits when speaking to superiors.
While often seen grumbling about her work, she is in actuality quite devoted to her job as an exorcist, and strives to succeed at every task given to her. Shura's a woman of her word, keeping even her dead mentor's promise as closely as she can as she in turn teaches Rin to wield the Kurikara.
She has quite the sense of humor, though much of it falls at the expense of others. From calling Yukio Scaredy-Cat-Four-Eyes to berating Rin for being a brat, she takes particular pleasure in needling her old tutor's young sons, though she has good intentions for them at heart.
Her relationships with others, while playful and superficial on the inside, hide a more complex motive to Shura's actions. Her life as it is was heavily influenced by her apprenticeship under Shiro Fujimoto, who taught her everything she knows as an exorcist and saved her from a life even she doesn't enjoy recalling, as her past is never revealed in detail. She does her best to look out for the twins and prepare Rin as best she can with his demon blade, even though she'll only rarely show any true affection for them.
Shura's training as an exorcist also lends to her personality. She's frighteningly observant, and can pick out minute details in situations that would pass over most people's heads. While she certainly has a fiery side, she can easily keep a level head in a stressful environment, and she never backs down from a challenge. Poor victims of her training exercises can attest all too well to how serious and competitive Shura can be when it comes to her work.

Strengths: Shura is a seasoned fighter and a well-respected exorcist. An incredibly skilled swordsman, she keeps her own demon blade sealed in the marks along her torso, which she can obtain by reciting the phrase "Devour the seven princesses, slay the serpent." She can keep other objects, such as additional weapons and external seals and charms, stored in her chest as well. Her other strengths as an exorcist include creating barriers, summoning a snake familiar, and recognizing demons.
Weaknesses: For all that she loves drinking, Shura's a bit of a lightweight. After being raised by Shiro, she missed out on some knowledge those with a more normal childhood would consider common sense.For example, she never really found out about the birds and the bees. Her lack of ambition, as well as her general lack of grace, also earn her the ire of her young colleague Yukio.
